Replacing a blown 2.0 SOHC

Hi All,
I have an automatic 2001 SE w/ 2.0 SOHC motor that just grenaded at 140,000 miles. This was a great car for the last eight years until just recently when the passenger side motor mount started making noise and then the car disintegrated the #4 Piston and Rod and blew a hole in the oil pan.

What's the best motor to replace this one with???

The best deal I can find for another SOHC is for $1600 with 20,000 miles. This seems pretty expensive, especially when I read about how these motors seem to be prone to valve seat issues. But maybe it would be worth it if I could get another 120,000 miles out of it???

I found some used DOHC motors that seem to be more reasonable in price, but I'm told that I would also need to swap the trany and wiring. It would probably cost the same after all is said and done.

What's recomended???

-Stay w/ the SOHC that has sketchy reputation???
-Try to do a DOHC swap???
-Part it out???

Its really up to you bro. I love the DOHC motor but if it costs a lot to swap it with the SPI Transmission then it might not be worth it. You can always find another SPI motor and just build it up. Honestly think this should be in the engine tech section. Unless your in the NE and looking for help thats different lol.

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section. I'm new to this forum. Thanks for the tip about the engine tech section. I finally found some posts that seemed to help. It appears that the DOHC and the SOHC motors both match up to the same automatic transmision from about '99 to '04 ish. So if I did the swap I would need a DOHC motor with the computer and wire harness, and a new exhaust. I'm not sure about the motor mounts...I need new ones anyway.

I think I have decided to swap to the DOHC motor.

Any advice or insight into this adventure would be appreciated.

i did it, wasnt that bad, need computer with matching ignition, manifold/cat, passenger mtr mount, throttle caBLE, power steering line, coolant lines, i also spliced the wiring harness by the passenger seat cuz i didnt feel like following it to the gas tank. best bet, watch copart auctions online, you can get a smashed focus for about 5-600 and have everything you need....its nice having everything there and then you know where everything goes too.

the DOHC zetec is a possibility. I think any other motor is more head ache than it is worth.

Here are the details on the zetec swap.
