svt engine on zetec tranny

ok can a mtx 75 go on a svt engine and if so wouldnt it be faster all around especialy off the line than with the 6 speed? And if it is possible to fit is it easy to do? What would a svt engine on a mtx 75 with 406 gear be like ?

Probably not faster; I think the SVT engine needs shorter gears to take advantage of its peaky power. 5 gears and you'll be lugging a lot.

It bolts right up, though.

I would think faster off the line, but that's about it! You might experience more torque steer, as I believe the axles are of a different legnth on the 5 speed, where they are equal on the six speed!

The svt 6 speed is better for canyon style driving because you can keep the motor on its powerband better with more gears. If you are talking drag racing, yes a 5 speed is better than a 6 speed simply because there is less shifting involved. That is really the only advantage to haveing the 5 speed over the svt 6 speed. Unless you are a die-hard drag racer with lots invested into the motor, I would say pass on swapping in a 5 speed. The time and money involved in a swap like this isnt worth the tiny drop in your E.T.

Contrary to popular belief, the 5 speed has better gear ratios than the Getrag. 5th gear in the MTX-75 is very similar to 6th in the Getrag. The Getrag has *two* different final drives, making the gear ratios all wacky. The swap is not necessarily easy, but you would see a performance gain from it. For example, with a 7600 rpm rev limit on my car, 1st goes to 42mph!!! That's way too long and my 0 - 60 time is much slower than a 5-speed swap would be. It will be good traction control for when I'm running 20 pounds of boost, though

I may be completely wrong so take this with a grain of salt.

First, let's make the assumption that the six-speed has shorter gears than the five-speed. With this in mind, when you shifted gears with the two transmissions, the six-speed would have the engine revving higher after the shift (for example, hit redline in first, shift with the six-speed and end up at 5000 RPMs in 2nd gear, or instead, shift with the five-speed and end up at 4000 RPMs in 2nd gear).

With this idea in mind, I personally think the six-speed would be more appropriate as the SVT zetec is incredibly peaky and loves higher RPMs.

Put in emoticon language...

With the six-speed:
*redlines first at 7400 RPMs* awww yea
*shifts to 2nd at 5000 RPMs* awww yea

With the five-speed:
*redlines first at 7400 RPMs* awww yea
*shifts to 2nd at 4000 RPMs, has to wait for the engine to rev up to the powerband again*

I side with majority on this. the 6 speed is good for auto cross and what not. where as the mtx75 would be better for dragracing. reason behind that is ford racing offers a better final drive for faster accel. plus diff's, clutches, and flywheels are cheaper then for the getrag. if your planning of drag racing then id do the swap because in the end you will come out cheaper if you had to replace these parts which you prolly will. plus if you blow the tranny up good luck finding a cheap getrag as opose to finding a mtx75. i wish every day i didnt purchase a svt. im trying to find an engine now and having no luck.

mtx-75 is a bit cheaper of a trans to build. but it's also a bit more durable thatn a getrag. added bonus is the mtx 75 is relativey easy to find wit hthe right bolt patter to fit (mtx75 from a dura wont work. the bellhousing pattern is different) as for teh guys talikg rpm difference it wouldnt be that much taller with the 4.06 gearset in the trans.

i believe the two ratios for the getrag are 4.25 and like 2.88 or something. at least that's what ive heard anyhow. do the swap if you want. being different never hurt anything.
