Curious for a non-Focus project.

Ok, I'm looking for a manual transmission that will fit the bellhousing of a 3.5 Duratec V6 but longitudinal configuration. Before you guys get all goofy on me, I know some of these exist.

Look down on this page. These guys sell a bell housings that will bolt up to D35's. Of course, I have no idea what the bolt pattern is on the D35, but I've been reading a lot about it. It's nothing like the D30.

The project is a long way off. Maybe I'll see if someone like Kennedy Engineering can build me a bell housing to adapt to a T-5.

Those are nice bodies on that page- eh?

Just so you don't think I'm crazy- here's a pic of a RWD 3.5 in a race car. Of course we all know that the Noble uses a mid engine transmission to fit a D30.

Huh, this might help someone. Noticeably absent is Duratec I4's, but apparently the D25, D30, D35, and SHO34 are all the same bolt pattern. I have no idea if any of these have been used RWD except the D25 that was RWD in early Mazda MPV's. I'm sure that if anyone has done it, they did it for an SHO engine.

Oh that's right, I remember it was a twin turbo Ford v6 in that Noble and thought it and odd choice at the time. Definitely makes good power though, and god knows how much they tweaked the internals.

What about the Ranger as a source for a RWD bell? any chance it would fit that pattern?

Look for an Aerostar with the 3.0 and a manual transmission (they do exist!).

I used to own one of those, and if I wanted a Vulcan bolt pattern that wouldn't be a problem. The Vulcan 3.0 OHV not DOHC pattern would fit a 3.0 SHO engine, but not the Duratec line of engines. That bolt pattern is different.

From what I understand the Vulcan and 4.0 V6 are the same, but I haven't verified that yet. I will eventually as I'll have both removed from vehicles at the same time so I can measure.

I'm still looking for a D35 adapter, but I did find a shop that manufactures bell housings to fit several inexpensive RWD transmissions. I could likely have one custom made if needed.

For anyone who is interested in using a Duratec or Zetec in a mid engine vehicle- the VW Type 1 pattern is available from them. You'd need a bus transmission or possibly one of the 5 spds- though I'm not sure if those are as sturdy as the bus transmissions.

It is twin turbo 450 hp, so probably quite a lot. I'd expect something with the price of the car!!!

I prefer the Ginetta G50 if I was going to spend my money. It puts out about 300hp, and is probably has no other changes to the D35 besides dry sump, and exhaust from the head back.

That's it's engine compartment with the hood tilted up in the pic above with the longitudinal lay out. I wish I could import and build one of these as a kit car, but the new Ginetta is not the same as the old Ginetta. Old Ginettas are still available in RWD, and they use Zetec and Duratec engines. 4 cyls go in the RR vehicle, and you can get a 6 cyl in the MR.

These are go-carts if you couldn't tell. Very famous racing cars in the UK. Here's an idea of the size of one, I don't think it would be all that cool to ride in around town.
