Engine swap??

Ok well im stuck with a lil 2.0 split port engine, and its pretty slow =[ lol well im undecided and looking for good advice.... Should i swap in a zetec or duratec??? And what is the difference in both?? Would i notice power increase???? Should i keep the split port??? Any turbos available for split port??? I was honestly thinnking of swapping in the v6 from the contour svt ???? And for any of the swaps will i need a new computer/transmission??? Will the zetec or duratec fit rite in??? Any advice is really appreciated ...

Neither the zetec or the duratec will fit right in. SPI's aren't easy to mod from what I hear. You'd have to make a custom turbo if that is the route you want to go. Basic bolt on's are pretty much all you can do, and even those are hard to come by sometimes. It's gonna take modification to swap any other type of engine in. If you want a decent amount of power, it would probably be cheaper to sell this car and buy one with a duratec motor or get an SVT or ST.

Because they are different types of engines and tons of things don't line up with the 3 engines. You'd definitely notice a power increase from the SPI to a Zetec or Duratec. Especially the Duratec 2.3.

no doubt...... though our engines may suck (if you will) they aren't THAT bad.

but yeah you'll see a power increase of course.

Just make sure of these things if you're gonna really take it into consideration:

1. Money: It shouldn't cost too much depending on what swap you want to do. Make sure you do have enough and try not to start it until you have everything you need. A lot of projects go unfinished because the owner gave up or ran out of money.

2. Time: This is a big factor; you could have it done in a couple weekends or a couple months. If you're working it's harder, but you should probably be working in order to pay for the car and the swap.

3. Transportation: Oddly enough, it seems a lot of people don't think of this; you think you can borrow someone else's car or buy another cheap one, and then it may not work out and you've already started on the project.

4. Tools: can't get anywhere without the right tools

5. Skill: now don't get the wrong idea, but really.... can you do it, or are you gonna be stuck?

6. Parts/documentation: well this is obvious, but make sure you have what you need..... pick a motor you want to do a swap with, then get service/shop manuals for each vehicle that has something to do with that engine. That makes wiring and miscellaneous issues correctable and a breeze.

7. Follow through: Yes. Really. Don't quit.

u really give me inspiration the only part im worried about is $$$ and how much customization needs to be done,, and after all that work im wondering if i will actually be satisfied with the outcome(maybe i will expect too much from the engine to come?)

You can always just test drive a Focus with the Zetec or Duratec engine to get a feel of how fast it is first...

Lol either that, or ask anyone you know, or anyone locally. Like someone from your area on here, at a meet or something like that.

But do know that this would be a big project that not many have finished...
