6 speed tranny swap

Hey guys. I have an 07 zx5 2.0 5 speed. would it be possible to swap in an svt 6 speed tranny? if so what all would it take. is it just a bolt in or what.

nope you cant the svt trans will only bolt up to the 2.0 zetec and you have a 2.0 duratec.

these trannys dont have a bell housing that you can swap or anything like that.

find a getrag 285 bellhousing that will mate to a duratec and you can do it. But you still have to make a custom mount for the axle to get it in line with the diff.

thats the first time Ive even heard of the bell housing all the times others ask it was always an instant no you cant. I love learning new things everyday on here.

i dont know about the 07s... but comparing the getrag to the mtx-75, the two have almost the exact same final ratio. im going almost the exact same speed in final gear in both cars at the same rpms.

Yep. The 6th gear isn't an extra overdrive cog. You end up at the same cruising RPM, but you just have to shift more to get there. 6th gear at 70 mph = 3000 RPMs.

I think it's because the SVT Zetec has a very narrow torque peak, and you need to keep it on a boil to get the performance out of it, so all of the gears are short. It really doesn't like to be driven below 3000 RPMs, but it's a blast above that.

Your Duratec makes a much flatter torque curve, and works fine with 5 gears.

id look into the 6 speed out of a mazda 3, the bolt pattern may match up (duratec to duratec, but you never know) and youd have to worry about if the mounts are close, the linkage and the computer
