first gear selection focus tdci

i am having problems getting into first gear on my 2007 focus 1.8 tdci, i have changed the clutch, pressure plate and slave with bearing. but still it does not like going into first. sometimes it will go in nice and smooth other times it crunches in. also it does not seem to have the safety mech that it should have to stop it going in first when moving.

Well if you are trying to push it in nice and easy, and it is grinding, it is most likely a worn synchro. Seeing as you have replaced the clutch and slave, chances are it isn't a problem with a dragging clutch or a slave that doesn't have enough throw.

If you haven't changed the trans fluid in a while, I would recommend doing that before anything else. I would also try finding the shifter cables and adjusting them at their linkage point.

If worse comes to worse, you will need to rebuild the trans. Syncros wear out. Its just the ugly truth of things.
