i have a 2001 manual zetec focus and i have two bad syncros so my question is on average how much would it cost to get my trans rebuilt at a shop if i just drive the car in and they do all the work. thanks

I think it might be cheaper to just buy a used tranny from a junkyard and throw that it. I say this because a friend of mine had the tranny in his cougar (same tranny as the focus) and it cost him somewhere around $1.5k. To add insult to injury, they didnt even fix anything. The syncros were just as F-ed after they "fixed" it as it was before.

Yeah, labor just pulling it out is gonna cost you around 600 or more bucks I would imagine. Then you are paying for the labor of taking the thing apart and replacing what needs to be replaced. (parts are expensive as well.) I am getting ready to rebuild an MTX75 I got off a friend which needs a 1st gear synchro. Called Ford and they want 160 bucks for the thing.. Then while your in there you might as well have them do the clutch which depending might be around 300-400 bucks. Its just a nightmare of cost. I would find a lightly used trans from somewhere and just have em swap it in.

Although then you are trusting the new trans is good. lol.

Probably not. But you will be paying a lot of money either way. If your at all mechanically inclined, it might just be better to do it yourself. Its not too rough to pull the trans on a Focus. Then you could send it to the shop, get it rebuilt, and put it back in yourself. Really save some money on labor time.
