D20 to D23

hey all, one quick question for ya

I came across a D23 engine out of a 2006 ST. This guy is selling the motor for 500 bucks with only 9k miles one it

Anyways, I drive an 05 focus D20 automatic tranny and was wondering how easy it would be to drop the D23 in.

I have dropped a couple motors in my time so I figure it can't be that hard. I'm just wondering what all is involved. Will my auto tranny hook up easily to an engine that is meant to run a manual tranny? will i run into any problems down the road like ruining my tranny?

Thanks in advance...i have quite a few questions in this post lol

It is a pretty straight motor swap but you will need to retune for the tranny. Any reason why you want to keep the autotragic?

We are doing a D20 to D23 swap now in a customer's car. Pretty straight forward. There are a few minor differences.

Different side cover
ECU tune

Your tranny may be the speed bump. We dont really do much for the autos so I can't tell you much there. The 5 speed swap will require the st engine bay harness

The motor is in tip top condition! The car however...is not. The car was involved in a auto theft heist - amazingly though the motor was untouched because police stormed the building.

It's quite awesome actually...when I got to check it out with my Dad today, I'll have to take some pictures - the whole care is completely stipped...fenders missing seats panels radios ect...but the motor is perfect!

^^ So the dash cluster is in proving that there is 9k miles on the motor?

This guy is the registered owner, right?

i did a motor swap in my 05 ford focus and was really simple and straight forward... i did mine with a brand new ranger motor though so there was more part swaping in mine but if yours is an actual focus 2.3 motor you wont have any issues. As for the tranny i cant help you there i had a manual on mine but my manual went right from my two litter to the ranger two three litter. Good luck and god speed!

I did a D20 to D23 swap from an 04 into my 05 ZX3, you can search my posts for the thread which has some details.

Your swap should be less complicated, I would get the entire pass side motor mount and brackets etc from the D23 since it's a little taller than the D20. You will also need to recal your ECM, since the shift points are calculated from torque values which will be much different from a D20 compared to D23.
