ATX tranny question

ok so i have a 2000 focus zx3 with an auto tranny that my friend/girl friend drives. the tranny went out last week and im going to have to replace it but having an issue finding on. was told at the salvage yard that there is a code on the tranny and that if it doesnt match the one that is being swapped in then it wont work. i talked with a guy on hear that says he has one but its from an 02 and he says it will work in any focus with the dohc zetec engine. was wondering if the code is due to the pcm tune or something. is this true that the code or atleast the last 2 letters must match or will any trans from 00-04 work in it. oh yeah dont say anything about doing a manual swap. as much as id like to she cant drive with a auto trans so a manual trans is out of the question.(bout killed my Getrag when i attempted to teach her)

The different part numbers represent revisions to the transmissions. The only one I would be concerned about is if you have an early, early 2000. Sometime mid-2000 they changed both the transmission itself and the computer programming.

Pretty much all the other revisions were hardware upgrades inside the trans. So those would be compatible.

I made a post with all the revision numbers on here somewhere, do a few searches and see if you can find it.

i think i may have the early model because the throttle postion sensor is diff on mine then most. it looks like a manual tranny sensor compareed to the auto sensor. can only get it from the dealer also. so im guessing i have one of the early ones.
