Manual to Automatic, Yes I know, FAIL!

Alright to make a long story short, my sister can't drive a manual transmission for beans. So my father and I have been looking into taking my former '03 Zetec with a Manual Transmission and converting it to an Automatic Transmission.

Other than swapping the transmission itself what else are we looking at doing like the shifter, mounts, so on and so on.... We are trying to price out the options before making a move.

I really dont know for sure but I think you might have an issue with the electronics too.The main ECM boxes might be different in program or model.

too bad you couldn't wait until later this fall. i am doing an auto to manual swap and would have everything needed to do this on yours but you would need a tranny due to mine being burnt up. then again if this sound like it might work let me know. i will cut you a deal on everything

Why dont you just give her some more seat time with the stick. The worst that could happen would be a fried clutch that would be unused anyway. Just push the issue a bit- you may save yourself alot of frustration/$ and she may actually thank you in the long run.

You'll need an ecu as well. The axles may also be different. I would just trade it in for another car.

you will need ecu, axles, the auto flywheel, crank shaft sensor mount, starter, harness, master cylinder, then need to take it to ford to get new keys. like i said it might just be best to find someone who is doing an auto to manual swap and buy the stuff they take off from their swap.

I'm pretty sure the axles are the same but it will need a new ECU. There was a really good thread on the swap and parts needed but I forget where it is, maybe I can dig it up.

illipino's 6speed swap has tons of good information.
HOW TO: ATX Swap / Replacement WITH PICS

And this gives you a run down on ATX to MTX parts you'll need, so I would think this would apply or at least help in reverse:
