Need help on swapping engine

Ok, my engine in my focus is shot. My mates uncle rolled his focus (lucky me) and said I can have all the parts for free! I think it is the same engine too.

So, im going to do a full engine swap, but where do i start?!

I need advice on how to do it and whats the best way to go about it, I can hire a engine crane. I will also be asking my mates brother who has done this before, but your advice would be appreciated too as its dedicated to focus's here.

Thanks

Start by buying a Haynes or Chilton's manual, not sure if you guys have those there. But the Haynes always have euro-spec cars in them so I would guess you do.

You are going to need a lift. The focus engines are made to drop out of the bottom.

They're easier when dropped from the bottom..... you can take both engine and transaxle out together, from the top it's one at a time.

sounds like basically all you need to do is follow the engine removal procedure within one of the above mentioned guides (euro version maybe) and it should be "Installation is a reversal of the removal procedure" lol. (to quote the Haynes manual, that is)

So you're telling me that, when I pulled them out the top both times together, I was doing it an impossible way?

But yeah I agree the bottom is easier, done that a few times too. Its easier unless you have a big supercharger in the way.

Focus motor & tranny will come out the top or the bottom in one piece. 4rlz. If you have a lift, and your exhaust is separable, the bottom is easier. If you don't have a lift, or your exhaust is one-piece (ahem, Charles), then it is no problem to pull them out the top. Just disconnect everything, be careful, go slowly, and you'll be fine. The Focus engine is really easy to reinstall, too... the wiring only goes together in the right way, nothing can be switched up, etc.
