SVT swap into 5 speed Mazda Tribute?

My current stable consists of...
'05 Saab 9-3 2.0 turbo
'04 Mazda Tribute Zetec 5-speed
'85 VW Golf GL 5-speed (not running)

I joined because the Zetec in our Tribute is a little tired and I wanted to see if I could find some good info.

All the threads I fave found are concentrated on doing the full SVT+6-speed swap... couldn't find anybody that kept their stock tranny. I would like to keep it as simple as possible and from what I've read a lot of work goes into the 6-speed swap for very little performance advantage.

Has anybody here swapped a SVT Zetec into a Zetec Focus MTX? I think it would be neat to have a 170hp Zetec Tribute 5-speed... it's only a 3000lb SUV so it's pretty light... for an SUV

Nobody? I looked at the Tribute today and it looks like the whole engine wiring harness plugs into a large serial port on the fire-wall right below the center of the windshield... what do the Focus SVT wiring harnesses plug into? Do they run through the fire-wall and plug into the ECU or are they like the Tribute?

the mtx-75 will almost directly bolt onto a SVT engine. very very little fab work involved. many people have done this swap, in a FOCUS. it could be quite a bit more involved for you though depending on some of the specs of your tribute. the bellhousing could be different in which case you would have to swap in the bellhousing from a mtx tranny from another focus and then you would have to get different axles and a plethora of other things so pray the bellhousings are the same. it will almost certainly have different motor mounts. you will have to swap out the PCM and ECU. it will be a pretty good bit of work but it might be able to be done.

The non-SVT Zetec from the Focus is a direct bolt-in for the Tribute... so wouldn't the SVT be bolt in as well? I'm mostly concerned about the electronics and that the SVT would bolt into the standard 5-speed tranny.

if you are absolutely certain that the standard zetec from a focus is a direct bolt in and everything about it is exactly the same as what you have in your tribute right now. i would say this swap could be done fairly easily. you will need 2 new top motor mounts possibly because im under the impression that the svt and zetec motors have slightly different mounts. other than that you can almost directly bolt a standard focus mtx-75 up to a svt, swap the ecu, pcm, wiring harness, et cetera and you should be good. like i said this all depends on whether or not the standard FOCUS zetec is exactly the same in every way as the zetec in your tribute.

EDIT: i almost forgot that you may need to swap to a better fuel pump. i think the svt's require a little more gas than what you have can offer. i could be wrong but it couldnt hurt to do anyway
