engine swap question

Posted via FF Mobile
Wassup guys, I had a questionm, I have a 2001 zx3 s2 edition. I want to change the whole suspension to a svt, which drops it .5" and a svt brake system. But I also want to swap out the engine for a brand spanking new onw, I have 142, 000 on my car now, I want to have the car for a long time and I don't want the car to give out, what type of engine should I swap it out for and if I do swap it for a new one, what others things under the hood should I swap out with new too, like transmission?

Do you have an Automatic or Manual transmission?

I would go with the new Zetec motor's from Ford (ask b16sir1991). Because you know you won't have issues swapping Zetec to Zetec. If you could find an SVT motor great, but you also need to tear the car apart and change ECU's and wiring and such.

You could also throw in a 351 :P

Turbo will require prepping that transmission, especially if it's that old... it'll wreck it. I'd be saving up for a rebuild. Look up Lentech autos. You'll probably want at least a good tune, valve body, torque converter, and some new clutch packs to run a turbo at decent boost and keep that trans alive.

if you are planning on swapping in a fresh engine and then going turbo you should definately keep that auto. automatic and boost go together hand in hand. 2800 stall, ceramic clutch packs, trans brake get it all! however if you're going to build for boost you might as well keep the motor you have and completely rebuild it for boost. there is no point in buying a brand new engine with 0 miles on it if you are going to tear it apart directly. just replace everything in the motor you have. pistons, rods, head job with new over sized valves, port intake manifold, new knife edged crank

But if I use the engine I have now and rebuild it, would it last me the same as having a good engine?

I saw this engine, a 2.0 zetec with supercharger built in, made by ford, its 2850.00 brand new, think that's good? Would I need to change anything else if I get this?

yes. if you rebuild the engine properly with things like forged pistons and rods for example, it will last longer on boost than a brand new 0 mileage stock engine. there would be more things to go through than just pistons and rods but you will cross that bridge when you come to it. long story short it will cost less to build a bullet proof engine from the one you have than to buy a brand spankin new one.

where did you see this engine? if you are sure it is a zetec that can be put in a focus and isnt blown to smitherines you had better buy it. without seeing more info on that motor i couldnt tell for sure if you could use it or not. there are alot of cars that have used the zetec engine.
