We discourage being rude here. ;) Anywho, he nailed it. I think both zetec and duratec you would have to change computers also. But if you have a donor car, its no biggie.

I wasent being rude or trying to be. if i came off that way Im sorry but that wasent meant to be rude. hey Az-LX21 I have an spi im going to be doing a Spi to zetec swap soon.also in Glendale. tboth you do from what i understand you need the whole wireing harness for the duratec and more work and its mroe down time than a zetec swap. whereas the zetec you only need the part of the harness that runs from the engine to the fuel pump as well as ECU

in all honesty there isnt much we can do with these cars as far as motor swaps go. if you are doing the swap on a buget, ie for under 5 grand your best bet would be to get a donor SVT focus that has been wrecked and rob the motor, tranny, axles, computer, everything else you can use from the donor and swap it into yours. not much fabrication work will be required but it will be time consuming, frustrating, and you will be lowering the overall value of your car in the eyes of "normal" people in case you ever decide to get rid of the car. the reason i suggest the svt swap is because it is the highest hp standard focus engine you can get in the US and you will still be 100% street legal in all 50 states after this swap. the 2.3 duratec makes about 15hp/tq less but parts are a little more readily available for it. the zetec makes 40hp less than the svt and parts are easy as pie to find for it. dont waste your time with the 2.0 duratec because it is pretty much the same as the zetec power wise but in my opinion is more tempermental, harder to work on, harder to find parts for, and more expensive than the svt engine at every junk yard ive been to. the zetec has the widest variety of aftermarket parts right now if you are planning on building the car after the motor swap. the svt has a pretty wide selection in the aftermarket as well but most everything is more expensive for it. aftermarket parts for the duratec are pretty much nonexistant for now. if you have the money to go all out on this sucker i would suggest nothing less than doing a 351 windsor swap with all the goodies. you could do this yourself for about 15 grand probably if you buy the full kit to convert to a V8 minus the motor tranny and rear end. if you fabricate everything you could do this swap for about 3 grand but there are only 5 people i personally know that are crazy enough and good enough to do that job. they all have more than 30 years of experience in cars and fabrication and are all really expensive. but on the bright side you would have a car that the day you finish can take to the track and run around and maby under 11 seconds in the quarter mile depending how well built and tuned the donor motor is.

i was making the suggestion for AZ-LX21 as we had already established that you were doing a SPI to zetec swap.
