very interesting question indeed. i dont see any reason why not but ive never personally owned a SOHC focus or escort. driven a few but never owned or worked on one. they both have the same engine so far as i know but im not certain on interchangability. very simple solution would be to simply call a ford dealership, ask to speak with a tech and ask them. as a matter of fact you could pester mike at hilbish ford. his screen name is b16sir1991
