engine options and possibilities

buy a use dsvt engine and have it running for a while. and have my other block and head sitting in my garage, have the head done by CFM (stg3 svt head) and have them install CAT CAMS also.
and then get the JE high compression pistons and eagle rods and put those in.

Or just buy a engine from tom with forged internals and some head and valve work done on it.

opinions.

price will be about the same.

you can either pay all at once and get the motor from Tom and have the peace of mind knowing it was built correctly and if you have ANY problems knowing you can call him and sort it out. OR you can buy everything peice by peice and put together the engine yourself and making an excellent learning experience out of it. im peicing together a beast in my garage now that ive been working on for quite some time and when im finished im expecting 400+hp out of the box without breaking a sweat. however its the first focus engine ive ever built so i might make 400hp for 5 minutes and blow or it might be good for a year or more without a problem in the world. if i had it to do over again i would have saved and bought a complete engine from tom to save myself the headache.

Using a thinner head gasket will also help bump up compression. Personally, For the amount of money your going to spend on the engine, might as well build it for boost, right? See if you can't get the compression to 10.8 with using stock compression pistons and a thin head gasket. That way, when its time for boost, you can drop it back down with a thicker HG.

my pistons in there now are shot and need to be replaced.
so yeah, but CFM said the JE pistons that are 10.8:1 will be 11.1:1 with the SVT head.
dont know why but yeah.
i also can have a set of pistons custom made from JE.

id really lie to see 11.5:1 or higher.

im going all motor.

whats the highest compression you can run and still use pump gas? isnt it 12:5:1 or something like that? id still rather buy the motor from Tom lol. you will be at it for months building that engine.
