Zetec to a 2.3 Duratec. Need Answers.

ive been askin this alot and posted this in the Duratec performance and cant seem to find good straight up answers. Are the engine mounts the same on the Zetec? And do i need to swap the tranny (manual)? I know i need the ecu and wireharness. Also i heard it was really tough is that true? some ppl told me getting a wrecked fofo with the 2.3 would be better than just a motor ecu and wire harness. any post will help thanks.

i have to say that the mounts are the same based on this logic...

the 04's came with a zetec and some rarely had duratechs. so why would ford use differant engine mounts?

talking with my frineds about doing a duratech swap they said the MTX tranny is the same to.

have you tried sreaching the forums?

You will need to change the trans. The Zetec and Duratec both use the MTX75, but the have different belhousing patterns. The mounts will have to be changed, but not the ones welded to the body, just the ones that bolt on, to the best of my knowledge. You may also have to change out the ash wiring harness, as I think wiring f the guage cluster is dffentwithe Duratec. I wll be doing one of these swaps soon too, and have been researching it alot, and I have a few Duratec and Zetec cars sitting to play with.

^^ scott your absolutley right on all of that. also you'll need the duratecs instrument cluster. since wiring and the plug is different to work with it. you can make it fit your zetec dash by popping off the clear part of the suratec housing ans swapping your zetec piece on. then it fits like a glove again. all in all it's not a huge pain. but a fair knowledge of how to tear a car apart and put it's gut in anothers is always a bonus.

^^ the Zetec electronics in the cluster will not work with a Duratec, that is why the dash wiring harness needs to be changed, and the Duratec gauge cluster installed.

That would be the easiest. You can get just a front half of the car, as long as the part of the PCM harness that runs to the fuel pump is not cut. That is what I did for my last SPI to Zetec swap.
