V8 Focus Drivers/Builders questions

I just had a few questions about a V8 Focus swap. For safe keeping we will say this will be a carbed 302 Ford swap!

1. How did you get around to making the speedometer and misc gauges work?

2. Did you keep the A/C & Heat?

3. What does the kit include for Misc items like Alternator, wiring, hoses...

4. Did you re-use you factory fuel pump?

5. Is this something that I couold accomplish with the basic swap kit from Krugel and a donor 5.0L?

6. How does the electrical system all tie in together?

I am sure that I will have more questions but this is starting to become a serious thought for me. I said the same about the turbo build for my ST and got that done, now onto a V8 Foci!!!!

1.
Replaced speedometer and all guages, you won't get the stock Focus ones to work.

2.
heat, yes..
A/c no, but I don't see it being difficult to keep

3
Misc items like Alternator, wiring, hoses
Nothing in "Kit" for wiring or hoses, alt. brackets available extra

4
No

5

basic swap kit from Krugel and a donor 5.0L?
And many many hours work, and quite a few extra parts.

6
With Carbs, probably not too difficult.
I've got EFi and it took quite a lot of work to tie the 2 wiring looms together to make best use of the fuses

I have seen on Krugel's website that they sell the one wire alternator and a GM style AC Compressor. I wasn't sure if any of this came with a kit. From what I understand the Alternator comes with it but you have to buy the AC Compressor alone. Wonder how they get all the fittings to work.

My plan was to eventually buy the kit and just use a donor mustang for its drive train. Of course this is with hours upon hours of work of course. Just because they make a "kit" doesn't mean its a easy swap.

I will be on shore duty so I will have all the time in the world. Believe me, with as many engine/trans swaps as I've done their never an easy swap. I am not sure if Krugel even makes a "kit". I think they sell individual parts only. Maybe I should stop referring to it as a kit. I am just try to find out all the little odds and ends that need to be done besides swapping in the driveline. I would like to keep my heat and A/C. At the same time I want to make sure that the electrical side can support the car and is wired correctly. Running a bunch of autometer gauges wont be hard... just figured someone got around to making the factory dash work.... guess not! Still waiting for Tom to chime in.

Thanks Stuart and Sleepyboy!

No problem sounds like you have the knowledge to "get r' dun''. And besides its figuring out all the little things that make the build fun and worth it in the end once you can fire it up and put it in gear and take a drive down the road.

haha thanks sleepyboy... I agree 100% with you on that. I remember completing my first rebuild and firing it up. So exilerating! It was my 2000 Lightning.... Anyway I hope this is something that I can do. I told the wife that I was either going to get an SVTF or attempt the V8 Conversion. She wanted a nice SVTF but I think having a V8 Focus would be more bad ass!

^^hahaha yoou and me both a V8 focus would be bad @$$!!! though I also want a decked out SVTF. So torn lol. though my V8 conversion would be way later down the road. If my motor takes a crap within the year then I'm going to go with a SVT motor swap. I figure when my car hits about 500k mi it'll be ready for the V8 lol.

I am still torn between driving a super clean SVTF around on the weekends or spending my time off in my garage dropping in a 302cid. Either way, I figure either one will cost around $8k-$10k to be in a good extra clean running condition.
