Why so hard?

I dont understand it i have changed and removed and istalled many different types of transmissions in my day but i have got to say the focus is hands down the most difficult to remove and install.. you spend 20 mins removing all the items to remove the tranny and then 2 hours trying to get the &*^% thing out.. is there a trick to this i dont know? this would be the 4th or 5th time i have pulled my tranny for many different reasons and every time its the same thing.. 20 minds getting it ready then about 1 to 2 hours just to get it our or position it to go in.. am i just a retard or is there something i am missing... help me out im tired of fighting with this stupid tranny..

Yeah I am right there with you.

We found it is WAY easier to remove the motor and tranny together. It saves about an hour I would say. Plus it is easier to get to everything such as bell housing bolts ect..

We dropped the tranny once and left the motor in, and after that relized its quicker to remove everything.

yeah MUCH easier to drop it all out the bottom together...

but if you cant do that, try removing your fans and clocking it 30 degrees counterclockwise.

well...... look, here's one word to sum it up: Focus. seriously though, my shop teacher's been in the auto scene for 40+ years, and he said in his whole career he's NEVER seen anything with such odd parts, components, and designs as my focus does.... LOL

A trans swap on a Focus should take no more than 2.5 - 3 hours. Very easy. Once you have the fans out, and other BS, it comes out real easy. If you want hard, try changing a tranny in a Caddy FWD V8.

Just pulled my second focus tranny and yeah, WTF MATE. It's like a secret password. I didn't try coming out the top, but the bottom was no fun ride. I'm gonna head out in a little while and pull the motor so i can shove em back in together. soooo much easier i've got a feeling. Anyone else ?

This thread has definitely shone some silver lining on my to-do list. I am doing a clutch and diff swap but I am also doing a motor swap so I will be taking it all out and putting it back in together. Thanks for a little bit of encouragment.

Yeah i'll hopefully be droppin my system back in next week. I'm just going to use a crane w/ a heavy duty strap and have the tranny side about 1 foot lower on the strap and fall to a block of wood then the motor will lower into horizontal position. BOOM BABY. Take your lifting from under tranny crap and shove it far and wide !!!! :-D

dc speed...hit me up when/if you plan on getting rid of your motor.
