AWD question

First post so don't hammer too hard.
First thing I looked for after getting my Focus was the possibility of making it AWD. Next thing I saw was how rare the components were to get that may make it happen. Now my history is with GMC Syclones and Typhoons. I've actually designed aftermarket components used in the transmissions and transfer cases. The syty uses a BW4472 AWD (NO COMPUTER CONTROL) transfer case. Uses a viscous setup instead of clutches. S-10's are a dime a dozen.
This company, http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/...tec/index.html
Could obviously make the transmission adaptor to use a 4L60e, use a TCI or PCS trans controller, have a converter done by Yank or PI and make the setup longitudinal.
The only reason I mention the GM stuff is that I'm comfortable with it. I like the idea of the Zetec mated to a 60e because they have a removable bellhousing and the 60e could mate to the 4472 easily. The hard part would be the tunnel and the front diff.
I've seen guys do amazing stuff with the rear diffs already doing one out of a mustang. Biggest thing would be getting the ratios to match then clearing all the suspension goodies.
Has this already been done?

We had a pretty nasty snowstorm recently and the wagon didn't want to pull ANYWHERE and the AWD really sounded good. I love the look of the Focus and still can't figure why it wasn't offered in AWD.

Now I also looked and saw a more current version of the the Duratec was actually used in a Ranger app. Is that right? That may be an option as well and then use the BW4472 in it. Borg Warner made t-cases for Ford and GM.
Only thing that sucks on the 4472 is that its a drivers side drop and the exhaust from the Zetec would be on that side as well.

Again, I appreciate you guys having this forum and it's already helped me when I did all my "just bought my car" maintenance.
