help on RWD conversion

at this point ive decided to do a rwd conversion on my focus. there is room for a driveshaft in the exhaust tunnel and i could get a rear end in there but i just want to know if any1 has ever done it and if they have some input? my mind is made up im doing it no1 can change my mind im just wanting to know what the easiest cheapest way to do it is. putting in a miata motor and tranny with a longer driveshaft could be done but i dont like those engines. if there is a rwd tranny for the zetec i would love it because i have some work done to it already but i believe there was already a post on that and there are none so scratch that unless some1 knows of one. v8 conversion is out, not friendly to the daily driver. please all help is welcome and if any1 knows of a focus specialist in north carolina let me know about that also. i saw a website not long ago with focus race engines and stuff like that for a few grand and would like to find it again but never have been able to track it down.

There are plenty of RWD transmissions for Zetec, unfortunately for you they are mostly in Europe.

Fitting a driveshaft down the tunnel is not a straight forward as it looks you need to alter the rear;

Do a search on here-this has come up many times. This company...
www.quad4rods.com
sells a bellhousing to mate the Zetec to either a T9 or a T5 trans.

oh god thank you for that quad rods web site thank you thank you thank you. theres a rep point i wish i could give you like 10. any idea which the T5 or T9 is better? the tranny going into my car has to be a manual. i wont go back to automatic for nothing unless its a powerglide in a 2500hp dragster. and what i mean by better is ease to install. the size(smaller is better in some cases, less cutting) how much power it can hold, how much it weighs etc.

The T9 comes in various Sierras, Merkurs where the T5 you will find in Mustangs. The T9 is pretty weak and a lot of Merkur owners swap the T9 for the T5.
Here's a link with a lot of T9 and T5 info...hope it's what you are looking for!

And another with T5 measurements...

The rear of the exhaust tunnel is too low to allow the Drive shaft to move up when the rear suspension moves up.
Part of the problem is that the emergency brake cable is directly under there.
You will need to cut out a section and lift up the level of the tunnel.
I have a 8.8 rear (v.8 conversion), I don't think any other rear will make it any different.

Just had a thought, my car is a wagon I don't know if the it's just the Wagon tunnel that is low at the rear to allow the seat to fold down

Don't worry about the shape of my altered tunnel, it's to allow the fuel pipes to run inside and then exit to the rear.
