Tranny Swap

Ok So I have a 01 ZX3 Automatic and I want to make it a manual. Would it be really hard to switch it to a manual?

Would it be cost effective also. IE is it more expensive to buy the new tranny and put it in or should i just get a different car.

well... if you have the tools and the means to do it... and could find a deal on the tranny then i'd say go for it... but you will need some cash and a lot of time to do it... IMO i wouldn't do it.. just cuz of all the work involved.

I did it and it was worth it. However, I had someone who had done it before do it this time.

Also, I got a Manual PCM off of ebay to resolve the CELs that appeared after the swap. PCM was $25 on ebay. Cost was $150 to have a Ford dealership install and calibrate the PATS system.

honestly it should take no more then a weekend. i did a clutch install in a day. a tranny swap should take no more then 2-3 days at most.

good luck mang.

first time I did it, it took about 36 hours of 2 people working

but that trans was broke, and so was the clutch master cylinder, so i basically had to do it all over again, except shift cables and wiring. took about 22 hours the second time.

to get good, WORKING parts it cost about 1000 bucks
