Automatic build.

So sadly I do have an automatic trans. But I think its a good id ea to go ahead and build it up. Everyone is doing the manual swap but I am going to stick with the auto. Any ideas on where to start, like what kind of torque converter and valve body where can I find these things? One more question, When i pnch the gas from a dead stop or when driving I seem to have a lag in the acceleration. I am saying from when I hit the gas and when the car actually starts to move forward is this a trans. problem or could it be something else? Keep in mind this is only when I punch the gas hard. Thank you for all the input in advance.

when you punch the gas does it downshift? thats probably part of why theres a small hesitation at least mine does that to...what mods do you already have done? if your cars still stock theres no point to build the tranny and even after you start throwing parts at it you really wont need much besides a tune to increase your line pressure unless you go FI or ported and polished head and big cams

yea but with just a cai he definately wont need that and yeah man i hear ya on being a college student i've owned my fofo and i just now got my exhaust on (svt header 2.5" flex 2.5" ORP and borla exhaust) now i'm saving up for cams and a ported and polished head and i think with those mods plus my air intake and bbk tb and tune I'm getting close to the limits of the stock tranny but i dont think with just exhaust header and intake you'll need to worry about building up the tranny

i read on another forum that all you need to do to be able to add 8psi without damaging the tranny is to get an transmission fluid cooler and replace the torque converter..not sure if thats true though

use the search function better...

I've been using a stage 2 turbo at 12 PSI on my focus for 24k miles.

You don't need to do ANYTHING to it except up the shift pressures at 8PSI. I'm not going to go in depth because I've already written novels on the ATX and boosting with it. I will say though that to answer your question, the lag you are getting when you stomp on the gas is in fact because there is no direct linkage from the tranny to the flywheel unless you're in 4th gear when it locksup. It takes time for rotor inside of the torque converter to spin the fluid which in turn spins the other turbine and that's how the input shaft spins which with the gears and such makes your wheels move. On top of that, there's also something called stall speed, and in the focus I think it's around 1700-1800 RPMS, meaning that you won't start producing power until that rpm range. In other words the turbine has to be spinning at that speed at a minimum for things to work.
