Pulling SVT motor - for those who've done it.

Okay... I pulled the motor apart in my 02 SVT (in the car). Pulled the head, header, intake/blower, oil pan and windage pan. Basically, it's just a block, crank and front timing cover still in the car, attached to the 6 speed.

The block needs to come out since it will need to be bored for new pistons. For those who've done motor swaps in the SVT, what should my plan for removal be? It doesnt look like you can pull the motor off the trans in the car (or am I wrong?). So do I pull the block and trans out the top? What needs to be disconnected on the trans for removal? I am guessing linkage, axles, mounts. Anything else? Anything need to be pulled on the driver's side to get out of the way?

Thanks for any help, while I do this for a living, I don't have much experiance in front wheel drive motor/trans swaps and appreciate any advice.

you will also need to disconnect your transmission coolant lines, and it is easier to jack the front of the car up and take it out through the bottom.

svt motor swap?

Back on topic. Most Focus engine R&Rs are going to be very similiar. Unfortunately, you can't separate the engine from the trans, leaving the transmission in place while the engine hoists out. There isn't enough room that way. Your best bet is to remove the transmission, and drop it out the bottom while the engine is supported, and then pull the engine up out the top. Thats how I did the work on my car.

I pulled it out last week. It wasn't that hard at all, it was just a little intimidating being that I've never pulled a front wheel drive motor before.

I pulled it out the top. It was easy as pie. Just disconnected everything and bungeed some stuff out of the way, it the motor and trans came right out with plenty of room. Really couldn't have been easier. Making sure I had everything disconnected was the hardest part.

As an FYI to anyone reading this in the future - it can come out with the getrag in place, axles in place - just remove the crank pulley and the block can slip out the top with ease.

The easiest way is support the trans and engine , remove the "K" member and drop engine and trans as one out the bottom
