01 SE SOHC to 01 Zetech DOHC

My 2001 SOHC SE with a 5 speed blew up and I can purchase a wrecked 01 ZX3 with a ZETECH DOHC. What will I need to do to complete the swap?

swap the motors, transmissions, wiring harnesses, motor mounts, axles, ecu, etc. if you have the car at your disposal, just start moving everything

I am also in the middle of this swap and if you can get everything from a wrecked focus then go for it. There are a lot of little items.

Biggest one I had trouble with were the bolts for the Zetec alternator (believe it or not) They are M8-110mm partial threads and even bolt supply houses don't usually stock M8 that long. I had to order direct from Ford and it is taking 2 weeks to come in.

The Power Steering Pump works from the SPI as does the AC Compressor. Depending on what you are going to do for exhaust you might want to grab the cat and flexpipe. I am putting on a custom 2.5" exhaust 'sans cat' thanks to the relatively lax emissions laws in my jurisdiction so I didn't need to worry about it. Of course it would be silly to not get a new clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and pilot bearing at this point.

You will also need the throttle body and something to use as an intake. I plan on whippin' out some PVC and a K&N filter that a buddy never got around to putting on his mustang. Some would say this is too 'ghetto' but I don't really care!

I also am getting ready to do this swap. I know I have to swap the Wiring harness and the ECU, but will I have to swap the PCM? Just trying to see I will have more fun to look forward to.

If by PCM you mean the Power Control Module then that is the same thing as the ECU (Engine Control Unit). AFAIK they are different names for the same thing.

After doing some reading and finding out a little bit about PVC I am now planning on using High temp ABS instead.

We swapped everything and now..

We swapped everything out of the ZX3 into my SE and now the security light above the radio keeps flashing and there is no power to the starter. Any ideas?

^are you using the keys from the zx3?
you have to swap the key cylinder also for the keys to be compatible with the ecu.
and since you swapped the ecu, if you are using the old keys you need to reprogram the PAts system for them to work. a lock place or your dealer can do that.
