svt pistons in a duratec?

Will it work? I was reading that they are 10.5:1 and the duratec is 10.1:1 so I can Get my hands on them for almost nothing and hopefully get a few more ponies as well as maybe some mpg, since I hear higher compression increases a motors thermal efficiency or something. Lastly do you think I could use the rods as well?

I don't know the answer But I do know some info. I know the svt pistons don't mate to normal zetec rods so in order to put svt pistons or rods you have to do both the rods and pistons. To be honest I really don't think the geometry of the engines are in anyway similar so I would have to say it won't work.

The Bore and Stroke are different.

SVT/Zetec:

Bore 84.8 mm
Stroke 88.0 mm

D20:

Bore 87.5 mm
Stroke 83.1 mm

I just grabbed this info from a search, so I suppose it could be wrong.

No, that information is correct. You need to get Duratec specific pistons.

ok thanks guys, i figured as much. i didnt know the duractec pistons were bigger, interesting. any ideas how much of an HP gain there would be going from 10.1:1 to like 11.5-12:1 ish? as well as nothing would like...explode or anything would it? lol, and would i have to get new rods to? i'm not really in the market of tearing apart the motor right now im just checking stuff out, seeing what'd be most cost effective for hp/reliability since its my daily driver.

Yes, you would need new rods. Pistons by themselves are probably only good for 10-15HP, but when paired with other modifications (cams, headers, IM, etc), they are worth a lot more.

so just rods and pistons? thats reasonable,...i do plan to get a set of crower stg 1 cams as well as a header. how much would it boost hp? and would it decrease gas milage at all? i don't have a heavy right foot (at least not all the time) but i heard higher compression = better mpg, is that true? and whats a common compression ratio...i don't want to get anything too outrageous lol.

I'm not sure about a lot of your questions, but if economy is a concern, you should note that a higher compression ratio will require higher octane gas to be run safely for your engine.
