Turning a ZX3 to RS AWD

First off, is it possible? Could I get a tranny, axels, and diferentials to turn my American ZX3 into a AWD Focus RS? Or would it be cheaper just to import a Focus RS? I have big plans for my little car, and I would love to be able to hook up when I launch. And the only way I can see doing that with my beloved zetec is turning it into all wheel drive.

And yes, I did try to use the search on this one. Didnt come up with anything.

The RS was never AWD. To do an AWD focus would be MAJOR money, MAJOR fabrication and MAJOR increase in weight. Not worth it. This car has a lot of heart, and with an LSD and proper rubber you can hook up pretty well.

There was one guy on here "ozan" who was swapping a Cossie Escort AWD powerplant into a Focus but he has not updated the thread in a long time. He was a decent ways into the build though.

if you have a duratec and patience + knowledge you could do a ms6 drivetrain which is a sdimilar set up as an evo.

Not really.

Depending on how far back you go, the Evo either had a set 50:50 gear driven center differential or an adjustable two mode center differenital...either a 50:50 F:R full-time split or 100:0 F:R, which I have always viewed as stupid...basically in that mode it becomes a FWD car. They probably did it for fuel economy during cruising. And the Evo X AWD goes even further and essentially operates similar to a WRC AWD system, automatically biasing power to the wheel(s) with the most grip.

The MS6 uses a Haldex AWD system that is essentially FWD until they slip, then power is biased via a slip-sensing differential to the rear wheels. It starts at 100:0 F:R and can reach up to 50:50 F:R depending on how badly the front wheels are slipping. The driver has no control over the bias.

I've always viewed this as a downfall with Ford subsidiaries (AWD Volvos and Jaguars use the same system.) Ideally, if a performance model doesn't have a full-time AWD system it should be reverse; RWD until they slip and then bias power to the front.

Damn. THat sucks. SkaAddict, you mentioned the WRC focus, thats awd, right? Is that setup available for purchase from ford? Or did they completely custom fab the whole thing? And if I did get a hold of a WRC setup, would that be able to go on a street car?

Are you planning on winning the lottery or knocking over a couple of banks anytime soon? I'm not even joking...a used WRC transmission alone will run you about $40,000. And you can't just bolt it on. For all the parts it would require and custom fabrication you'd have to do you'd be better off just buying a used WRC car from M-sport.

Just a hair over a half-million. Not to mention getting it from the UK to here.

Or you could pick up a JWRC Fiesta for ~$60,000...
