Mazdaspeed 3 to 05 focus

Complete rhetorical question here. Would a mazdaspeed3 engine bolt up to an 05 focus? I know they are the 2.3 duratec but I dont know about mounting points and all that.. What about the tranny? Would our auto bolt up or just transplant with the MS3 trans? Once again I certainly do not have the money to do this.. just curious... (for now)

It certainly wouldn't just "bolt in," given that the Mazda 3 is built on the C1 chassis and the Focus is built on the C170 chassis you'd be looking at custom engine mounts, and you'd definitely need custom halfshafts to fit between the Focus spindles and the MS3 transmission. Shifter and cables would most like have to be swapped, fuel pump and possibly the rest of the fuel system, all wiring harnesses, computer, something would have to be done with the gauge cluster, etc. Pretty much the same you'd be looking at with dropping in any other non-Focus engine into a Focus.

im gonna say prolly, because the mazda is on the c1 platform and the focus isnt, so yeah maybe someone else will say otherwise, cuz itd be fun, but a lot cheaper just to boost your current one

Thats unfortunate! I was thinking what would be a good swap.. Someone do it and let us drool over it! A 2.3 duratec from another focus would swap right in though correct?

just a quick point, but instead of going through the lovely ms3 engine and trans swap, wouldnt it be easier to build a boosted 2.3 and use an SVT trans? just throwin it out there for an idea...

Would the svt trans even hook up with the 2.3 duratec?

No, because it does not have a removable bellhousing and the Zetec has a different bellhousing bolt pattern than the Duratec.

I don't think it'd be that much of a problem getting it to bolt in b/c it's the same block as the 2.3 in the ST focus right? So you'd be able to use the ST engine mounts (with some poly of course). Transmission wouldnt be as easy.. probably be easier to bolt up an MTX75 and use that. Fuel wouldn't be that much of a problem either by just adding a BAP...

ST Gauge cluster would work with an ST wiring harness.

Its not that simple...the Mazda 2.3 is significantly different from the Ford 2.3, there's a lot of details but the only real matchup between the two is the bottom end (block, rods & pistons), everything else is different. Plus you'd have to run the MS3 ECU, so the ST gauge cluster most likely would not work. And while the block may be the same, the MS3 is not built on the same chassis as the Focus so its a good bet that the mounting points aren't the same between the two.

And as far as a MTX-75...Mazda also uses different transmissions than Ford...while I believe it would line up (same bolt patterns on the blocks) the MS3 computer probably wouldn't be able to work with the Focus VSS and other inputs from the transmission, at least not with extensive tuning.
