Escort SOHC fit in a Focus?

I have a 2001 Focus LX with the standard 2.0 SOHC motor. I blew the motor in it and am trying to find a replacement. I have spent literally hours online trying to find an answer and I can't find one. Some people say the Escort motor bolts in and some say it doesn't. I found a 1999 Escort motor that the shop swears will bolt into a Focus. Anybody know?

Since you're going to be putting in the effort, why not swap in a zetec motor and wiring harness.

If you're looking to just pop in an escort motor and expect plug n' play results, you will probably be in for some roadblocks. As long as the tranny bellhousing bolts up and the motor mounts are exactly the same, it will mechanically work. Then you need to worry about the ECU and connections, hose routing, etc etc.

Or just buy a new car.

I am pretty sure they will NOT fit in the focus due to a drive shaft clearance issue...i could be wrong but Jeffescortlx would probably know the answer...
