How long to remove engine Tranny?

Assuming one has all the tools, jack and jackstand, engine hoist etc. how long start to finish does it take to remove the engine and tranny in the 2.3 duratec M5 focus?

Average time, and what was the most difficult part?

A couple hours tops.

Hard to say what the most difficult part it, it's really just disconnecting a bunch of electrical and vacuum lines. Obviously you gotta take out the CV shafts, and take off the engine mounts. I would say the "hardest" part is getting the drivers side CV shaft out. There's not really a good place to pry on.

All in all it is actually pretty simple to take an engine out of a focus, IMO.

You looking to do a swap or just take the engine and trans. out?

No just pondering modification, and concerned with the durability of the unit I am starting with. With the aftermarket saturated with d23 and mtx75 units, if something were to break, its probably just as cheap and easy to replace the entire thing.

I did mine the other night ... didnt start drinking till half way through and was on the phone most of the time maybe took me 1.5 hrs of actual work

heres the pics post http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...=1#post1822635

biggest PITA is the exhasut mani, alt wire, and the siezed suspension appart...also I have never been able to pull the driver side axle to I just take the thing out with it on...and then punch it out later... I recomend when you put it back together you anti seize the crap out of everythign! maybe I just have the rust issue because I like in the northeast

has anyone looked the removal of the driver axle in a manual? I am sure that the only way is to take out the pass side ..thats is easy and punch it out with a screw driver or whatever and a hammer.. there is nothing to pry from and I am afraid of breaking the casting

You can pry it out, but you have to notch out some of the fins on the outside of the transmission in the area of the cv shaft. Also, you need to had a really long pry bar and hace the car up off the ground, preferably on a lift.

The easiest and most effective way is to knock it out through the differential with a long screwdriver or something to that nature.

Now, if you have an aftermarket LSD in the car, you can't knock it out through the diff, at least not that I know of. I have pictures of my stock diff and my Torsen at home, I'll load them up later to show you what I mean.

Doh, nevermind. I was thinking of something else when I posted that. Yes, you can knock it out.

Forgive my stupid moment of the day.

Please tell me that all that stuff does not need to come out. Headlights bumper cover etc. Also does the assembly come out sideways? Looks like a tight squeeze coming out.
