Replacing Engine

So i have to get my engine replaced after just over 63K miles, I am the second owner and basicly engine damage that occured during his ownership is rearing its ugly head. So I need to get a new engine, my machanic has found me a replacement with 85K miles that he could buy and install for $2500. Good deal?

Woah, way too expensive. Zetecs are a dime a dozen, no more then $500 for one in good shape with lowish miles. Hell i could go to the junkyard and pull one myself for $120.

Alright well I have looked on criagslist and Ebay and found nothing for around that price. Where could I find a low mileage engine for $500? I need to find out what the engine costs and what the labor is.

Junkyard.

What all happened to your motor exactly? Might be better off rebuilding..

Developed a nasty tick/rattle. From what I have been told it sounds like it was run without oil. First when i heard it I thought it was timing issue or rod knock. Car didnt have any problems until after I got its oil changed, then the check engine light came on after going past 5000RPM took it back and had them change the oil ask i swore that they put the wrong weight in. Drove after 180 miles back home...noticed the tick. First took it to Ford of Bellevue they came back with the reply severe engine damage, new engine 5600. So i am really lost on what to do. This machinic was referred by a friend and seemed like a nice guy. I have never dealt with this, so i dont know what to do.

I guess you kinda get stuck with not many options when you need labor done for you... I mean, if i needed a new motor i'd go to the junkyard and pull it, then have some friends come over and help me get it in there. 2500$ for a mechanic to replace a motor is a normal price though.

tick turns into knock, if the oil was low or something probably spun a main bearing or burnt one up, I'm in the process of replacing mine with an SVT, took me forever to find an SVT engine but like everyone said the Zetec are dime a dozen I found lots in northern california for under 500 almost every junk yard had one or ten, HA HA.
