Tranny Swap Question

I know A tranny swap is very expensive but I'm just curious about the actual swap.

What else do you have to replace besides the tranny?

Were exactly would you buy a new transmission.

and who would do an install like that?

You talking a atx to mtx swap i'm assuming?

I'm collecting parts for one as we speak.

There's a laundry list of small misc parts you need for the swap, it's alot better to have a donor car, not sure how different the process would be with a duratec.

You can buy a new transmission from ford...hardly worth it over finding a wreck and salvaging the trans from it.

I've been quoted 3-5k from the few trans shops i asked about such a thing, and was told to seriously sell the car and buy a manual. But doing the labor yourself is really the only way to go

The hardest part of the swap is the wiring, it'd prob be best to change the wiring harness, which is a royal pain and involves removing the dash, but it's possible to do some splicing on the atx harness and make it work. You'll also have to have ford reprogram your ecu when all is said and done.

Now keep in mind all this info is for Zetecs, but i'd assume it isn't much different for the Duratec.

Are you planning on going F/I? If you're just doing it because you want to hold some good power then you may be better off having your auto built to handle the power, everyone here will recommend lentech, but honestly you can save a ton of cash and have any decent transmission shop build it to handle some power for about the same cost as swapping in a 5 speed, and keep in mind once you have the 5 speed you'll still need a clutch, fly and LSD if you want to go F/I. so figure $1300~ for those parts alone

I was probably thinking around 10-11psi.. I really wouldn't feel ok going FI without beefing up the internals...what would actually have to be changed?
