Question Can It Be Done??? A RWD conversion without switching the Zetec Motor?

Heres the thing people....I like how now we can swap to a v8 and what not for a rwd conversion but the thing is it changes the car. It wont truly be a rwd focus, it will be a v8 mustang with a ford focus body and also.....a lot heavier. Ive been thinkign for several days and searchign forums to see if anyone out there in this world has ever been successfully able to put rwd on a focus with a zetec engine. I know i would love to be drifting and autcrossing like crazy in my focus, but i want to avoid losing my stage 2 roush turbo kit whcih has been wonderful sicne ive got it. If anyone reading this has any info on this topic, Please...share it with the rest of us focus owners and it would be greatly appreciated....Thanks

yes it can be done.
It's probably twice as expensive as parts + labor as a v8 swap... perhaps 3 or 4 times more expensive...

why? The ONLY company I've ever seen this done is M-Sport.
They have done it with the zetec, as well as the 2.0 duratec.
300hp and 400tq sure must be fun.... I couldn't even put a price on it.

Anything can be done. But for a reasonable price probably not.

Best option, use focus as your pride and daily driver...
buy an old car with a RWD, and turbo... many options.
91 Miata + greddy turbo
91 Eagle Talon TSI
88 rx-7
90 240 sx
90 300 zx

just a few of some popular cars to modify and track...

just throwing it out thogh it might not work. would a transmission from a miata do it??? seeing as they are both 4 cylinder cars. if any one has a zetec and a miata trans lying about should check this. because ive also toyed with this idea in my head.

it can be done..
i think a rear diff+shaft+rear suspension stuff from a jaguar will do great and would be easier to fit..

i dont think it would cost too much if you do it by yourself but it needs too much body work and you cant just cut and weld such chasis parts.. because the chasis wil become very flexible once you cut out the parts, u should stabilise the chasis before any cutting etc...

I wouldn't even begin to say that it would be a Mustang if you converted it to RWD. It would make it so much better. RWD does not stand for rear-wheel-drive it stands for right-wheels-driving.... or correct wheels driving. In anycase I have always dreamed of having a RWD ZX3. I think that RWD would compliment the well built and stiff chassis and give the focus a whole new level of feel and performance.

Even a stock SVT zetec driving the rear wheels would be a BLAST! And you would have plenty of room to go FI if you wanted.

I think the biggest chgallenge would be fabbing up a rear subframe to hold the diff and half shafts. And that would definitely be a challenge from what i have seen back there....
