General discussion on Throttle bodies.

So i know there are other TB threads but i feel like they are specific to one TB and I didnt want to clutter them further so I thought i'd start a new thread that we can use to talk about all throttle bodies. I know Mike is going to be testing the 63mm 2.7L V6 TB so this could be a good place to talk about that among other things.

I had a couple questions still to get things started.

Fist, why are some of the aftermarket TB's so expensive. I know the 65mm TB from BBK is $500 and there is a 59mm TB from Modern Performance that is over $200. why are they so expensive compared to the 63mm one for the V6 Mustange which can be had brand new for under $60. is there more performance wise to throttle bodies then just the size that would justify the larger price tag?

Also, and hopefully Tom can chime on this one but he stated that he was able to modify the stock TB to 67mm which I think is awesome, does anyone have any more info on this?

this photo was taken from the 3.7L mustang TB thread but it shows the stock TB on vs the larger 68mm TB. which just going off the photo seems like it would be difficult to bore out the stock throttle body beyond a few more mm since the OD of the inlet is so small.

anyways, hopefully we can get a larger TB figured out for our cars. I'm looking forward to what Mike at RDC finds out about the 63mm TB as that is by far the cheapest option.

Any $60 TB would be a clearance item, or cheap used, just not a reasonable price.

Precision parts, even boring one out to a larger size is a precision job - and even more so for making/installing the larger plate to match.

Custom made would take it to another level, and those would still need to use stock parts for the motorized section & TB sensor.

Reman unit for my car is $198 with a core charge from A Z, new aftermarket at $312 just for a comparison. And those are cable operated type.

Ford is either closing out that particular part in favor of a different replacement, or it's a dirt cheap import they managed to find. I'd bet on the first guess.

Need Test Focus for larger TB

Pictures with stock plate in the stock bored TB

67.875 mm bored out stock 2012-2013 MK3 TB , 2 of them on and running with no issues , one for a year now , one on the DIY MK3 Turbo kit Focus

Technically its a 68mm but most people know the Focus TB to be 65mm or 67mm , I have taken it to 80mm but thats just to big

It definitely can be done cause I did it
