Mk3 Engine and Trans mounts info.

So I figured i'd share my thoughts on the engine and trans mounts for the mk3 now that I have them all installed and tested. For the record I have the COBB rear motor mount, James Barron Racing Passenger side mount and the TurboTech Racing driver side mount. All three of these mounts are extremely well made and great products.

I started with the COBB rear motor mount and it is a great upgrade. I know there are similar mounts on the market from other companies that are just as good. For people who are wanting a reduction in engine movement without getting a huge increase in in cabin noise and vibrations then just doing a quality rear motor mount upgrade will make a huge difference.

The second mount I added was the JBR passenger side mount. There are also a couple other options on the market for this mount. I went with the JBR because I got a really good deal on a slightly used one and I wasn't sure i'd like the mount so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a brand new one. I will say, upgrading the PSM, at least for me, caused a pretty large increase in in cabin noise and vibrations. I would say this mount is only for people who are really wanting the most of these cars regardless of noise. The PSM does break in nicely after about 1k miles and does get quieter but if you are the type of person who does not like engine noise and vibrations in the cabin then you probably wont like this mount....

unless you get the driver side mount.

Which brings me to the last mount I did, which was the TTR driver side mount. I love this mount. I have been driving now for a few days having all three mounts and it's great. not only is there practically zero engine movement but having added the TTR driver side mount has actually significantly reduced the amount of vibrations and noise I get in the cabin of the vehicle. making for a much nicer daily commute. I'm am very thankful to TTR for making these mounts for the DCT focus.

So to sum it up, if you want a good upgrade with out a ton of noise, just do the rear motor mount.

If you are going to go all in and upgrade the passenger side mount, which don't get me wrong, is great. I'd recommend also making sure you get the driver side mount too. I drove for almost a year with just the PSM and RMM and I got very used to the noise to the point where it didn't bother me at all but adding the driver side mount has made a huge difference in a positive way. way less noise, way less vibrations.

^^^Yes - the Wheel has NOT been reinvented for the MkIII!

I know availability of the passenger side mount is recent, now that it IS available use of both sides once again proves to be best for overall vibes if you go that way at all.

Do you know what Durometer you're running on the PSM and DSM?

What you're talking about sounds like what I want to do eventually, as I've already done the RMM (Focus Electric) but always get stumped if I should run 70 or 80 Durometer.

I think the PSM is 70. It's the JBR street version. I think the race version is 80. As for the DSM, i dont know. i dont think TTR lists what it is.
