active shutters removed

has anyone removed the active grill shutters on their mk3? If I remove them will it mess anything up?

Out of interest, why remove them? I would expect to get an error code as whatever module that controls them won't be able to communicate with the motor (s). Maybe Focccus could be used to tell the car they are not fitted .... but not sure on that.

You need Tom's tune IIRC to get the check engine out.

I don't remember seen the active grill option in the BCM profile.

BTW, I would keep it but change the T-Stat to a lower temp then tune the car with Tom to open the shutter earlier.

MPG and quick engine heating are benefits with the shutters

I bought my 2013 focus se 5spd rebuilt and the unmotivated sellers didnt relace the active shutter system in front of my rad, no errors or anything even driving in Canada's -25 C weather. I've thought about replacing it as its actually not too expensive ($85 CAD) but have yet to do so.
From what i've read i gain a bit of drag from it and it doesnt warm up as quick but nothing else as i have a 2012 focus titanium automatic with this system

I definitely see a longer warm-up time when temp is cold (< -30C / -22F) tested last winter with the shutter unplugged.

MPG is affected but not a huge diff.

Zero benefit from removing them so why do it?
