Cold air intake for 2014 Focus SE

I have yet to do any performance upgrades for my 2014 Focus SE. I think I will start with a cold air intake. Any suggestions or recommendations? I think I like the Steeda CAI for $299.

I have the Steeda... it's the best sealed (against hot engine air and water) CAI you could find.

You wouldn't gain much (performance wise) without a tune.

Is it easy to install and will it affect my mpg? And does it sound better?

This is the loudest CAI I've heard.

Took almost an hour to install and it's relatively easy.

It affected my mpg because drive it harder to hear to intake noise growling

it's all about budget. the most cost effective route is to do a drop in high flow filter and the snorkel delete mod. cost is about 6 bucks and will get you around 8whp with no tune. if I was going to do a full intake system I'd probably do the steeda. Seems to be of good quality and produce good results. should see about 10whp out a full intake with no tune.

Can someone explain exactly how to do the snorkel delete? I've read other threads and it isn't exactly clear to me. And what should I get for a high flow filter? Is there any downside to this mod?

I can't think of any down side to the mod except increase intake noise. if you get a closed ended filter like the one from K&N it will be quitter then a open ended filter like say the one from Green filters. I bought the green filters, filter and then bought the separate end cap so I could do closed and open ended.

as for how to do it, it's really easy. just life up the front cover right in front of the engine bay and you will see a like plastic snorkel. just take it off and that's it.

how to:
Snorkel Delete

I did the snorkel delete and open ended Green air filter and have to say that it made a world of difference, noise wise, in my car. I have a hard time staying off the throttle lol its quiet while cruising but step on it and you'll hear it.

Plus side is that it was VERY cheap, cost me $60 for the green filter and that was it, the rest was just easy labor for the snorkel delete. Its pretty much a cold air intake for 1/5 of the price of the Steeda. Probably doesn't gain you much horsepower though, I don't think any CAI or RAI will gain you anything more than 3 or 4 hp tops IMO.
Truth in Ruin likes this.
