2014 SE Hatchback sluggish accel w/ AC on

I have a 2014 SE Hatchback that I love. It is a 5 sp that gets around 35 mph around town and 36 mph on longer commutes. I have the 2.0L GDI aka Duratec Ti-VCT engine w/ about 6K miles. I use regular gas.

I have noticed that when accelerating away from a stop when the AC is on the engine will sometimes bog almost to stalling unless I slip the clutch to get the revs up. This not normally an issue when the AC is not on.

I drive to focus on fuel economy so I generally get the car moving at around 1000-1500 rpms but there are occasions, as I said when the AC is on that the car will bog. It is kinda like when I was racing 2 stroke motorcycles and I grabbed a handful at too low an rpm and you could hear the engine make that low growl trying to get power.

Has anyone experienced this same bogging/wallowing in their 5 speed Focus? Any idea other than give it more rpms when the AC is on?

Thanks

Bob

Yup, mine acts the same as yours. It's just hard for the engine to produce any torque at these low rpms and the ac robs a good chunk of it.

My 2013 5 spd does the same. It doesn't happen all the time, probably the ac compressor cycling at the wrong time.

I had the exact same issue. I did the snorkel delete/shroud delete and added a K&N typhoon.
Not an issue anymore. I was surprised since everyone said there would only be gains in the mid and high end.

I have zero issues withthe AC being on. I too have the snorkle delete, Free flow air filter and use 93 octane gas.
But then I also have no expectation of this little engine at 1,000 rpm!
Thinking it is NOT going to bog at 1K you are crazy.

This is normal. Every stick i have owned will do this with the AC on at the low of a rpm.

DCT will do this too. I've experienced this driving the 12' and 13' company cars my work owns and with my signifcant others 14'

My car with the snorkel delete and K&N filter does not have this lag with the A/C on. I also run 89 octane every fillup FWIW; not sure how much of a difference that makes.

Mine does this too, and I also have the 5 speed. Try A/C on with two other ppl in the car up a hill haha. If that's the case I turn it off till I'm up to speed.

Some cars are more prone to A/C stealing power, and small engines like ours are more noticeable than others.

No problem here (in fact I'm impressed there is no bogging) but I set the A/C to 77 degrees with high fan speed, not auto A/C mode)) had a 2000 Honda Civic once upon a time & did as above ((had turn tutn the A/C off when accelerating from a stop cause not enough power for both))
