Custom exhaust questions

Got a couple of questions,
I want to do a custom borla exhaust similar to the borla setup they sell for $650
Ive been shopping around san diego and the cheapest price ive found is for $475 but with aluminize steel and no mandrel bending (cant find a shop that does). My question is will i be losing a lot of performance using aluminize pipes or im i better of buying the borla system??

I was oddly enough hunting today for someone to do a custom exhaust, and was told that I won't be able to get anything good custom for under $1000... I think you need to live near a place that has a mandrel bender as well as capable people...

If you have no option of getting a custom system done right, you might be best off with a bolt on system.

That seems insanly high. I have always gone custom on my exhaust systems, Mandrel bent and i've never paid more then 400$ and it's always been from right were the first CAT ends back so almost the entire exhaust minust the manifold and CAT. i have yet to get exhaust done on my MK3 but still i cant imagine it would cost more then any other car i've owned.

Like I said, depends where you are... I wish I could get one done for a reasonable amount.

Totally off subject but is everything more expensive in Canada? I watch a lot of HGTV haha and most of the shows take place in Canada and i'm always suprised by how much the houses cost up there compared to in America.

You cant go wrong. Really exhaust comes down to the sound. they will all give similar performance numbers. I'd go with a 2.5 inch and for the best performance get rid of the second cat and all the resonaters and mufflers and just have one performance muffler at the end. It will be louder that way though. I'd make sure you use stainless steel so it doesnt rust otherwise i dont think the metal matters to much. As for mandral bent or not i dont believe that will make a huge differecne. I'm not a expert though.

I'm quite the noob when it comes to most performance related stuff.. And I'm also not wealthy by any means.. Is it possible to modify an exhaust modularly? So I wouldn't have to drop 400 all in one go.

yeah of course. A lot of people just replace the muffler at the end for sound. I have seen people just do muffler deletes and cat delets on the stock exhaust too, although i dont know if that would benifit performance at all. If you want the most horsepower you'll need to do the whole exhaust but if you are just looking for sound then just do the muffler.

I am definitely not going for sound! Lol I drive my Focus for work (service technician) so I need to be somewhat professional with the noise production. I will definitely get bolt ons at some point but will go with quieter solutions..only when its an option though.
