The first mod - Snorkel Delete+Green Filter

My son and I did the snorkel delete and installed the Green Filter. It took us a total of about 10 minutes thanks to the instructions on here. We are very pleased with the results. It is nice to hear a little roar in the engine bay and going from 32.4 average mpg to 37.5 was/is quite nice as well.

I do have a one question...

Did you leave the top/lid of the filter box on or did you remove it? We left ours on and we are pleased with the results, but I have to wonder if the results would be even better without the top/lid.

Thanks!

I have gone with my lid on and i prefer it that way. I dont think you will notice any difference with the lid off, you'll just draw in more hot air.

Thanks for the reply, I really didn't want to read the 89 pages in the snorkel delete thread. My son and I were thinking the same thing and with the way our car has responded we are very happy.

If that's your reasoning for leaving the lid on, why did you think the open end filter would draw in more cool air? At least I think you're the one that made that comment in some other thread.

I think it will draw less hot air then with the lid off. I personaly left the lid on because i think it looks better. I feel like with the lid on it will draw more from the snorkel delete and the open end which would seem like more cold air then with the lid off. I honestly doubt it would make a noticable difference but i'd like to think it would make a small difference anyway.

IF you take the lid off YOu will hear huge roars now and then. The resonance in the system with the lid off is rather bad sounding, and can be very loud at times.
I suppose some ricers will like that. But anyone with any sense will throw the lid back on as fast as they can.
I have the snorkle delete and free flow air filter. Use 93 octane and am very happy with the performance of my 5 speed Focus.

How is the sound of the open-ended filter with the lid on vs. closed-end filter with the lid off (with snorkel delete)? Anyone know? For $hits and grins, I took my lid off and drove around for a few minutes...VERY LOUD and RICEY..just wondering if the open-ended filter gives a little more noise but isn't obnoxious.

From the responses I have read the open ended filter is louder but in a nice way.
The plus is you can just plug the end up if you want it quieter again.
The Green filter comes with a plug for that open end.

I havent tired mine with lid off yet, maybe this weekend i will. But the open ended filter with the lid on definitley has a beefy sound. i would compare more to a Subie than a ricey sound. More of a low growl.
