That's obviously the problem, once you were only able to get 91 octane instead of 93 then you needed to either use octane booster or re-tune.

Over-simplified, but where the ignition corrections drop before leveling out and beginning to climb again. It would also show up in your overall timing when under a consistent/increasing load in a similar manner.

For comparison, logs with no knock-

I would produce some total timing charts if I had them handy, but I don't. They basically look like a gradual climb that is either smooth/level (no knock) or a gradual climb that drops and climbs again (with knock). For reference, these are all WOT logs.
Thanks, I'll have to do some detailed datalogs this weekend to see whats going on. Learn something new everyday.

To clarify... did you have it tuned on 93, but now run the same tune on 91?
Truth in Ruin likes this.

10-4. This is a fault of my lazyness, not Tom's tuning ability. After doing some datalogs this weekend, I'll probably email them to Tom and get a revamp for 91.

Well.. I would have expected the tune to be able to cope with a variety of fuels tbh... but I'm not sure if that's what Tom does, or if that is an additional service as I would imagine that would take significantly longer.

Don't ditch the old tune though, in case you move again, or find some 93. Just ask if you can get it re-tuned for the lower octane :-) Let us know how you get on... pinging is not something you want to keep happening, you had better only run the stock tune till you get it sorted.

Yeah, fresh Tune for the 91 would be the trick.

Would expect it to be OK when returned to stock, fine tuned for 93 - not as happy.

Hopefully you don't have any pinging in stock, like I did.

Keep in mind for those that dont understand the knock sensor , in the logs above , the knock retard your seeing is the amount of timing + up to 1 deg to stop the engine from knocking NOT the amount of knock you have

I find it very hard to believe people are hearing pinging from preignition/spark knock with the ECU having the ability to pull as much as 5 deg of timing in .250 of engine rotation up to a total of 8 deg or timing max , I have no doubt your may be hearing something but I dont feel its from cyl psi/spark knock/preignition/detonation

Tom

Correct, those are definitely not knock counts-they are ignition corrections derived from knock. I don't log knock count.
