K&N Filter oil damage?

Just a quick question, Ive heard over the years that the oil that they out on the K&N filters can do damage to your MAF sensors. Is there any truth to this and should it be a reason to avoid K&N filters?

They claim its a myth but if you are really worried, clean your maf sensor every couple of oil changes. For how many filter they sell, you would think you would see more examples and complaints if it was true...

It's possible if you don't service the filter correctly.

The only way I can see it happening is by over oiling and not letting the filter absorb it completely. Just follow the instructions and there shouldn't be any issues.

The first time you service a K&N, you'll realize it doesn't take much oil to cover the media...a little goes a long way. It is possible you will over-oil it the first time but, if you do, just clean it again and reapply. The goal is light coverage, spread evenly. I prefer using the aerosol oil in the filter charger kit to the small plastic oil capsules that K&N sometimes packages with the filters.

I've put over 300,000 miles on vehicles with MAF sensors, paired with K&N filters, and I've never once had a MAF senser problem or had to clean a MAF sensor.

Agree the issue is only if the air filter is heavily over-oiled.
Some folks cannot get the idea of enough is enough. they think more is better, and twice that much better still. So when they oil the filter, it is dripping wet.

Unless you soak the filter to the point if it dripping off, then install and run the car instantly I can't see how it could harm the maf. Like others stated lightly oil it after cleaning it and worse case scenerio you have to reaply a bit to cover any missed spots.

The oil does not harm the MAF. The stuff that sticks to it(Silicates etc) do
