Clutch Question

Not sure if this is in the right section so forgive me...

I have a '12 Focus SE with 5MT.
The clutch travel is too long for me (I'm a bit short at 5ft 7in) and I'm really having to stretch to get the full clutch travel. I've developed some hip muscle pain as a result. I've never had this problem with any other MT I've driven, and it's really aggravating. The seat is angled a bit much for my liking and comfort so I've added half an Obusform Seat, to even it out.

Is there ANY WAY possible to reduce the clutch travel???
I'm either properly positioned for the Accelerator/Brake pedal and not the clutch, or good for the clutch and not the accelerator/brake.

Anybody, HELP!

Well you HAVE to adjust for the clutch pedal. that is the rule IMO.
My ony complaint is the central console is too wide so my right knee is restricted.
Are you pushing the clutch pedal with the ball of of your foot? Or with the arch above the heel?
I bet you are using the arch and not the ball.
You certainly should be using the ball of your foot right below your toes for the clutch.
That may be what is your problem?
Try practicing it with no shoe on.. to get a feel for it.
Barefoot it would rather hurt to use the arch of the foot. and you would naturally use the ball of your foot.
If I were you I would use my toes on the clutch pedal.. Try it. Way more reach with toes and the ball of foot than the arch to heel area.

Even at 5'7", you should easily be able to move your seat forward enough to disengage the clutch completely with the ball of your foot without stretching to reach. This should be the #1 priority when positioning your seat fore/aft in a manual transmission vehicle. It may benefit you to lower your seat also, if the front of the seat cushion is interfering with your left leg.

I would agree with the others, sounds like the seat position needs to be changed. Not that my wife has driven my car alot, but being 5'2" she didn't complain about being able to operate the clutch. But then again the seat was way forward and up which caused some issues with shifting.

btw, its a hydraulic clutch, there is not adjustement to the pedal travel.

One way to 'move' the front of the pedal forward would be to add a block of wood to the front of the pedal. I would search out some balsa wood and add about an inch thichness to the front (if the op is already using the ball of his foot on the clutch)
You could file the back to fit the rubber on the clutch pedal, then glue the balsa down with Gorilla glue, use zip ties around the thing to reinforce the glue.. Cover the top surface of the balsa with some strong fabric..?? Duct tape..
I had raised the gas pedal a half inch this way on my 1999 Contour SVT way back when.
I used a modified Isotoner glove to cover the modded pedal. It lasted 13 years.

I'm 5' 6" and have no problem with the clutch travel. Your seat also goes up and down and tilts forward and backward. Also your steering wheel tilts and is telescoping. This is YOUR problem. Not the car's. Find the right positioning between everything.

I drive (am) barefoot frequently and I find I actually grab on to the pedal with my toes. Also not having a shoe on makes you have to reach that much more, but I still don't have a problem. You shouldn't be straight legged to reach the brake and accelerator pedals. You shouldn't even NEED to go full knee lock to depress the clutch all the way...even barefoot.
