How much fuel does a DI engine take to start?

I parked my 2012 SEL hatch last night and the distance to empty read 100 miles to empty. When I started it today it read 94 miles to empty.

I average 31 MPG with my car so that is roughtly 1/5th of a gallon. With gas at the end of my street currently at $3.67 per gallon it costs me 73 cents just to start my car this morning.

Does anyone else notice the same thing?

I don't think it is from starting your car, it is just the sensor rechecking the fuel level.

That's what I would say as well. I think it re-calculates the distance to empty when you restart the car. I always notice mine jumping after some "different" driving, like more highway than usual. I have seen my Dist. to E jump UP after driving, parking, and restarting.

This, it doesn't use enough fuel to go 6 miles just to start the car, but it would refactor the distance to empty based on the fuel level and average fuel economy reading as an estimate of what you have left.

Something that also might play in to that is sitting over night. The fuel might have cooled just enough to read a slightly lower distance to E because of thermal expansion and contraction. I work with fuel every day and depending on how the fuel is measure in our cars that might be why.

If it took 1/5 gallon to start your car it wouldn't start because your cylinders would be filled with liquid gasoline.
