I have been away for awhile but I should mention that I got a link from someone on this forum and followed it since I was interested at the time (still am). I don't deserve the credit but neither can I give it to the original poster since I don't keep notes, I just follow the threads and my own wayward inclinations.

I suspect that I gave credit but it was in another thread, sorry.

I am watching any thread dealing with this issue but as far as I know, nobody with actual mileage has had a problem so far. That is not to say that there won't be one later in life but we seem to be free of the Audi fiasco for the time being and that is just fine with me for now.

Is carbon cleaning apart of Ford's scheduled maintenance plan? I know there is a part of the manual that shows the mileage you should have what done. If this was such a big issue early on, you think they would do this to prevent the engines from gunking up to save them some warranty work down the road.

I think an upstream injector is the solution like Toyota. Audi has a similar dual injector in the works. Ford said they had it all worked out with the Eco Boost . Very anxious to see the boroscope on a Focus.

I vent both my pcv and valve cover breather to a breather box. My engines NA and I have had some sort catch can inline with the pcv system for over six years. Be surprised how much oil the can traps. It's not that hard, just an extra maintenance step. My initial catch can required draining 1-2 times every two weeks. My current setup is huge an has never came close to filling.

If I had a direct injection engine, a catch can would be my first aftermarket mod.

It's not Ford specific. Very few direct inject engines comes with a serviceable seperator. It probably comes down to cost and having another serviceable item when most people don't like servicing a car.
