I tried to search thru some forums here about the maintenance needed for this filter but did not find anything. I just picked up this K&N last night and like the feeling it gives. I want to make sure I get the most out of it and keep seeing places online selling "cleaning kits" and such for them.
Am I supposed to be spraying it with something or another, or better yet, what sort of maintenance should I do with it over time?
Get a small recharge kit that has oil and a cleaner. It will last you a long time and there is no hurry as your filter can get really dirty before needing to clean and re-oil it. The intructions are included.
All that information should've been in the packaging with your filter or on the box itself. Standard driving requires a "recharge" every 50,000 miles. Also take a look at the K&N website. Everything you need to know about your K&N can be found on their website.
Interesting...maybe it's because you're in Canada? Jokes. I like Canada. Heading to Fort Erie later today for some tattoo work actually. But yeah, something with my packaging said 50,000 miles for normal driving. I plan on doing mine every 10,000 miles probably. Get a recharge kit and a nice soft wide (like 4-6 inch) paint brush. Use the paint brush first to brush off debris then follow the recharge kit instructions. You didn't need to do anything before install. They come pre-oiled.
Perhaps! Maybe it was in french and I decided to neglect reading en francais. Ft. Erie is nice (I live an hour away from Niagara) but I prefer the falls; and I mean the Canadian side of the falls We go over a lot to grab some randomness (I was about to get this filter over there because its rare to get here apparently) but my first road trip over there with my new Focus will probably be this weekend. woot!
A wedding in Buffalo? How... fun. Not to rag lol. I am a fun drive away so anytime it would be cool to do a meet up sometime! Hit me up whenever! Looks like we have the same mods so far so it would be cool for a photo op!
Not only don't over oil them, when you do oil them, let them sit in the sun for a bit, both side and allow some of the oil to "dry". If you don't the oil could get on your TB and cause it to start sticking or clog up whatever other sensors have been stuck into the air flow path.
