Installed FSWerks Intake on my 2012, and Race Exhaust (Video)

that thread shows what it sounds like. A less restrictive exhaust should help mpg, and the intake should hurt mpg, so in the end it probably is about the same mpg as stock, maybe slightly better highway mpg and slightly lower city mpg, so it will depend on what kind of driving you do.

If the hp and torque curves are to be believed there is no place in the mpg rpm range of 1500-3000 where the modified system has lower hp or torque so it's no likely the mpg would be any less. The car will control to near Stoic unless the intake mod changes the MAF sensor and even if the MAF is changed the O2 sensors should help correct anyway.

If anything, because the torque values are as high or higher from just about 1500 all the way to redline, the mpg should be a little better, particularly at the higher rpm's.

does anyone know if the K&N intake is better than the Steeda intake. The K&N looks to be better built but the steeda says it improves horsepower by 2 over the K&N

Some say the k&n is better others such as my self say steeda is better. Reasons being is the k&n replaces the hose from the throttle body to the mad housing. And Steeda replaces the mad housing with a billet piece with a velocity stack .

I personally believe that with the modified maf housing on the Steeda kit you will see better gains over k&n. Also stress reuses the factory cold air feeds that are not used on the k&n but both intakes will net you about 10hp over stock

Not true.

The Steeda and K&N both source air from the cold air "horn" behind the grill. The Steeda connects to half of it from one of the factory plastic tubes (the other left wide open), and the K&N connects to it 100% by a more direct route by utilizing its own metal heat shield. Neither of them will gain much from it unless there truly is a "ram air" effect from the horn, as neither system is sealed enough to create a vacuum and "pull" air from the horn.

Looking at the pictures I do not see the cold air tubes coning from the front as Steeda's does. Also Steeda does provides a block for the one tube that is removed so all the air goes through the one tube.

Does the k&n just use the heat shield to guide the air over to the filter?

Yes. I don't see how that is different from what Steeda is doing. Any air that is forced through the air horn will route directly to the filter in either system. I honestly question if there is any "ram air" effect from that horn, though.

This pic might help to show you. You can see the air horn's outlet and how cool air would route down the heat shield directly to the filter:



The "air horn" I'm referring to is part #9652 in this diagram. Part #9C675C is where your plug is installed for the Steeda, and is removed when installing the K&N.:

Well then I was still correct to a point K&N doesn't use the feeds it removes them and relies on the heat shield to guide them over where Steeda retains the factory pluming and routes it to the filter.

Just to clarify I'm not saying the K&N is a bad intake, I like the design but think Steeda did a better job in some aspects .

Right, I think they both have their strong points. I just want to make it clear that both systems use the so-called factory "ram-air" system to access cool air. Neither can pull air from that system as the factory intake does.

It would be easy to modify either one to use newmission's griffin air ram mod and pull air from the front bumper area, I am planning on doing that. You could also buy both kits and use velocity stack and the k&n crinkle tube replacement and have a better than intake by itself setup.
