I bought a funnel and some pool hose from Lowes and made a version of this intake. The main difference is that since I have an aftermarket intake, I just ran the flexible hose right up to the pod filter.

Results? While cruising temps remained steady where they were before the modification, WOT runs were a whopping 40+ degrees less than it was without the mod. The intake temps before were peaking at 122. After the mods, it never topped 80 (for reference, today was 70 ambient). So, while it didn't do much for steady state, it certainly reduced heat recirculation in the air intake.

Can you post some pics to show what you did? I'm interested to see how you did it.

Hello All,

I've been reading this thread and I will be doing this mod come spring. One thought though... I saw something on ebay that might make your life easier than drilling holes on that triangle grille to allow forced air in and add a nicer look on your bumper.

Most of us use this. Way less money and you really can't tell unless you get up close.

I Know most of you use this. I like the idea too but Im just throwing in the idea of getting the honeycomb grille for exterior look and using it for performance at the same time. If you prefer to do it a cheaper way by drilling or cutting holes in your OEM grille, thats fine too. Just giving ideas to other focus peeps thats all.

Appreciate it man. They do look pretty good. I might have to invest down the line.

So I have a 2016 SE hatch and unfortunately my front grill does not have those nice triangles that pop out and the main section of the grill is pretty sealed up with the active shutter system engaged.. I was thinking of maybe drilling a small hole in the solid section of the upper grills edge (on drivers side - see pic) which I think leads behind the shroud into a seperate enclosed section that is divided from the open part of the grill & shutter chamber.
From there I want to run a small diameter piece of pvc pipe or hose back to the resonator hole (anybody know the diameter of the stock hole?). I havent looked behind this part of the grill yet (cant see from looking through the grill since the shroud wall is blocking this section) so i dont even know if there is any space to route a hose through there but it would at least allow the closed off section of the shutter area to remain sealed while providing a very slight ram air effect. I will be doing the snorkel delete this weekend so I can peek under there and see what kind of space I have to work with....ideally I would like to just find a cheap ST ram air snorkel knockoff from China and go that route, but beggars cant be choosers
