HOW TO: 08+ F2 Header Install

First, this is a HOW TO. This is for anyone who is interested in installing the F2 DURATEC header in their 08+. So, please, let's not make this thread into a F2 bashing contest.

I bought the header straight from F2 for $230.00 shipped. It is a REALLY nice piece for the price. It came with all of the hardware and gaskets needed for the install.

I also ordered a front pipe with a HFC installed from Trubendz:

http://www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com...W-fdsh-/Detail

I went with the stainless 2.5" dia. and a length of 30". I'm running the FSWerks 2.5" racing exhaust. I measured the front pipe to be about 29" so I figured an extra inch would be good to have and I could cut it down if I needed. However, the header and flex pipe seem to be a little shorter as compared to the stock manifold and flex pipe. So, having this extra inch worked out really well.

First, disconnect the neg. terminal on your battery. Next, If you have an upper strut bar, remove it. You will need the clearance to remove the manifold and install the header.

Next remove the little heat shield that covers the purge valve

/IMG_3997.jpg[/IMG]

Disconnect all the lines so you can remove the bracket from the firewall

Unplug the o2 sensors from the harness and remove them from the exhaust manifold. In my case I have the 1st o2 for the ECU and then a wideband. Once this is done remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold.

Now you can access the manifold bolts.

Unbolt the flex pipe from the front pipe and remove bolts from the exhaust manifold studs. Some studs came out with the bolts. So, don't freak out if this happens.

Install o2 sensors into header. I also checked the gasket to make sure the primaries lined up properly.

Install the header and 'snug' bolts. DO NOT torque yet.

HEADER/ALTERNATOR Clearance:

As can be seen in the following pics. The primary is a little close to my alt. for my comfort. For this reason I HIGHLY recommend header wrap. The plastic covering has not melted or anything as of yet. I will keep my eye on it and let you know if it does.

The header comes with directions that tell you the proper torque sequence for each stud. Do this now.

Next, install flex pipe and front pipe with cat. I loosened my whole exhaust to line everything up properly.

Re-install the purge valve and connect all lines. Plug in o2 sensors and reconnect the battery.

Final product minus strut bar:

CONCLUSION:

For the money this isn't a bad header. The primary is still a little close to the alternator. It sounds GREAT.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Get a tune before adding this header. There are two reasons for this:

1). You're not playing around with the CEL fix, which according to some members doesn't always work.

2). You will use the potential of this mod

Use header wrap!!! I used the titanium wrap (Thanks SCRAMMER). Due to the close proximity of the alternator.

This took me about 2 1/2 hours to do. You may be able to do it faster, but I recommend TAKING YOUR TIME. I took my time and I'm not chasing exhaust leaks.

Is the Cossie and FSwerks header better?....Probably....Does this header suffice for what I use/drive my car for?...yes

Well, there it is. You can make you're own decision on taking this route or not. Hope this helps. --- Tom

Your primary is way further away from the alt than mine, mine sat directly on the plastic when I installed it.

I am sure you could feel a power difference right away, I know I did.
