CA Duratec or Zetec?

My 2001 Focus has 95,000 miles on it & thatís why I was considering a used Duratec, but from the info that Iíve gathered on my most recent threads (with much appreciation to all of you for being incredibly generous in sharing knowledge & experiences) it seems to indicated that while living in Cali, that there is more power to be gained by modifying a Zetec with a PW than a Duratec NA with sneaky bolt-ons. (If weíre going to pass smog inspect). And for now it looks like the Zetecs with PW & the Duratecs with TC are pulling about the same numbers on the dyno even if weíre not talking about CARB limitations.
So now Iím thinking about keeping my Zetec, adding a PW or A FS/VF Stage 1 (although not CARB certified would be a lot less problematic to return to stock form for smog inspects than a TC set-up) & when itís finally time to do a re-buildóI will then pick-up a Marcy or a Focus Power 2.3 stroker short block, FR heads, FI specific cams & upgrade the FI to stage 2. And an added consideration is that the Zetecs seem to have a pretty good track for toughness & hold up well with added power, & Iím not sure yet that the Duratecs share these qualities.

Any thoughts on this?

well there are many people here in california that will perform a smog check without doing a visual. a fi duratec will pass smog. i mean if you have to slip the smog tech and extra 50 or so and he will be more and happy to take care of you.

Yeah, but there are rolling smog stations in some parts of cali and if you get pulled over and have to pop the hood you're boned without a carb cert.
